An Item Crossed off my Bucket List... Kind of.

Plan A, I had imagined, was to take a small ship cruise up the coast of New England, stopping along the way to eat lobster, browse antique stores, and tour historical sites, lighthouses and museums. But Unplanned B, byway of an 18-wheeler, is how I saw Massachusetts, an itty-bitty bit of New Hampshire and Maine.

The closest I got to the coast was driving by a bay marina...

And the best we could do for a museum visit
was to get a drive-by shot of...

However, I did get the lobster. Our load wasn't quite ready at the shipper, so the nice people there suggested we drop our trailer and bobtail over to the Muddy Rudder for some lunch...

I've only had lobster twice before, and that was a long time ago, and someone else opened it up for me, so our waitress patiently answered all my questions, gave me Lobster Utensil Use 101, then happily brought me some more butter sauce after I knocked the first one over... inside the plate thank goodness.

I don't like lobster much. Didn't care, I just wanted to be there, do that. I tied my bib on, and had more fun playing with the critter than I enjoyed the taste...

My dog Lolo even thought twice about eating what I couldn't. And Doug promptly went back to his steak after trying one bite.

Enjoying my odd enjoyment of lobster slaughter, thrifty hubby held his tongue about the cost.

Loved that map tabletop, by the way.

And although the plastic deck chairs and muddy river behind the Muddy Rudder wasn't too especially scenic, the place was quaint. As Doug was taking a pic of me...

... our cool waitress offered to take one of us together to put in an album someday for reminiscing about when we visited somewhere so out of our southern truck driver element.

  1. Great story....glad you got to see a little of New England...it's one of my favorite parts of the country! And next time you do lobster, just order the tail - that's where all the yummy meat is!! And drown it in butter, of course! :)

  3. Cool post! It's funny the first time I tried lobster it was when we were delivering a load to Maine. I didn't like it much, either.

I did however like the aligator fritters we got somewhere in Louisiana!

    Nice pictures.

  4. I had some blackened alligator tail in Bossier City... they were really good. Can't remember the name of the restaurant and haven't been able to find any since! Have you ever had Boudin balls? There is a Mom & Pop truck stop on the north side of I-10, exit 109, (just east of Lafayette) that has them. I guess we have southern taste buds, huh?
